Let Me Annoy and Offend You; My Time in Namibia!

This blog may annoy or offend some of you, but I am posting it any way.

Firstly, I’m a Christian and I’m happy that I am.

The end of August will be 12 months since I arrived back in Namibia in nearly 20 years. And for that, it has not been easy for me to fully adjust. Firstly, I had to get used to a lot of things again, even crossing a street for me has been hard as I always have to look at the wrong side of the traffic as I cross the streets, just to find cars coming fast towards me from the other side.

My body has to get used to the weather here and my stomach has to also get used to the food. I had to get it in my system again to get used to seeing more and more people walking by foot, walking long distances coming and going to work. The first day I arrived here, when my brother and friend picked me up from the airport, when we got to Katutura, tears just started rolling down my eyes, just by seeing how some people are living; some with no running water, no electricity, no toilets, and mostly, just too much alcohol.

I had to get used to seeing people loaded in the back of trucks like animals, being transported from and to work. I have to get used to seeing people working doing hard manual labors, such as fixing roads but digging with handpickers, etc., instead of using machinery to do the work.

As time goes by, I eventually got used to how some things are; but the most difficult thing for me, is to work on this Groot project. It has been like hell. Firstly, most people just didn’t and still don’t understand how and what it is; I always have to explain everything; word for word. It’s as though we are inventing a new system whereas, we are just copying what is happening in other countries. Even the airport, Heathrow, in England, it’s nearly developed similar to what we are doing here in Namibia, but because it’s never been done here before, it’s such a mystery to most people. But then the question is; what will it take to bring down the unemployment rate from the current rate of more than 54% to about 4%?

All the days that I’ve been in Namibia now, everyday of each week, I have to explain how things work. I sit down with government officials on regular basis, news reporters, etc. Initially, news reporters used to write garbage and junk about me and our project, but after I have spent a lot of time educating them on how this economic and rapid industrial ecosystem development stuff work; now you rarely read anything about me in their newspapers. Because now they somehow understand how things work, not like they used to do; go through our Facebook page and my Facebook profile and just copying what we write and then try to put in their so ‘well-uniformed’ commentary.

And then I have to face some politicians and those politician-wanna bes; who question me and continue to question me behind my back about what “my real motive” for working with the Americans to develop this project in Namibia. “Why the Americans, what do the Americans really want”, all these stuff. Like now, with the Groot O League in the North, more and more ‘politician-wanna-bes’ in the North are questioning ‘my real motive’ for us to host the Groot O League Tournament. My question is; when will Namibia be able to beat South Africa’s Bafana Bafana or even Angola? How can we develop Namibia’s sports from the grassroot level?

Why can’t one just do something good and unique for his or her country, Namibia, without being judged or questioned about his or her motive? I thought Namibia is a market-driven, capitalistic system, and free enterprise market economy where anyone can start and operate a business, any business? What if the investors or contractors are Europeans or Chinese? “No man’s an Island”. If you want to develop your town, region or country’s economy and you have no outside linkage but only rely on your local investments, then think again, because it will never work. Example; why is Africa and even anywhere else in the world; coastal cities and towns are more developed than the interior of the continents? Answer that for yourself.

And by the way; our contractors and investors are diversified; made up of the Africans, Americans, Europeans, and Asians. There’s no sinister here when coming to our Groot development, it’s just pure business and to help our government, our people, and our country. “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”.

It has been very difficult for me adjusting myself to being here again, even driving in Namibia, especially that I don’t know how to drive a manual car, has been a lot of pain, and driving on the right-hand side is even more painful for me.

So, for me; everyday since I’ve been here for the past 11 months, has been a miracle. God has been awesome to me; and if I have to testify how God has been gracious and merciful to me, it’s amazing. He has always provided and cared for me; and He continues to open doors for me, He’s making things more easier for me. He’s given me a spirit of patience, humbleness, understanding, and obedience.

I’m very thankful to my Aunty, my friends (you know who you are, all of you and I will never forget all that you have done for me), and my family (I’m so thankful for my family). More and more, I’m more than grateful because, Jesus is awesome, everyday is a miracle, it’s a testament for his Goodness. For me, it’s like I’m one of the people of Israel, brought out into the desert and each day, God has provided for me, just as He provided for the Israelites in the desert.

I’m a living testimony of the goodness of the Lord Jesus Christ. He has blessed me and has given me so much, I can never ask for more. I sometimes wonder, why me? Such as this pending deal, it’s one of the biggest deals in my life. I’m grateful, because God, the Maker of all things, has bestowed me and abundantly blessed me.

Yes, He has loved me first, even before I was born and love myself. He has fulfilled every desire of my heart and much more. And for that, I thank Him and I will forever Praise His Holy Name.

If there’s anything that I can ask from the Namibian people, it’s for them to just take a day off and pray. Just to pray and ask God to help speed up the process and make ways for issuance of all the permits and licenses needed for the development of the Groot Town Center ecosystem. Because, in reality, as you have read throughout my blog postings and our Facebook page, our Namibia’s ecosystem development is the ultimate and only solution to help with the rapid reduction of the high rate of unemployment in Namibia now; boost the well-being of all the Namibian people, and help fast track the realization of Namibia’s Vision 2030 in about 5 years instead of 19 years from now.

If you’ve not already done so; accepting Jesus Christ as your Personal Savior could be the best thing that has ever happened in your life. For me, it’s more than awesome!

My Personal Predictive Linear Modeling Formula for Success

The following is my most effective linear predictive modeling formula that defines me. I created this equation to help guide me to achieve my objectives and realize my dreams.

hi = β1ti + β2ti2 + . . . + β3ti3 + (β1t2pi – β2t3ni) + Ei
[Limitless Possibilities = Productivity + Determination + Resilience + Risk Tolerance + (Persistence – Procrastination) + Other Factors]

If you try to follow and assimilate it, you may as well experience some form of unique success in your personal endeavor as much as it is doing for me. I’m working on my personal autobiography in which I will be able to detail explain each one of the variables depicted in this equation.

Look for my autobiography in the late part of 2012.

Dream, Make a Wish, and Act on It

To dream is to wish, to wish is to set a goal for yourself of what you, no body else, but what you want to be doing or become at some point in your life. No matter who you are, where you are from, or what you are, you too can dream, you too can make a wish, and set a goal for yourself, whatever that might be, and act on it. You can’t just dream and make a wish, you have to act on it, and do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Just sit back for a minute, and ask yourself; what is it that you really want in your life? What is it that you need to do in order to get what you want? What does it take and how long will it take for you to get it? Then make a move; go get it.

The only difference between you and the guy next door who is living his dream, the guy who you be starring at, dissing and hating, it’s because he did whatever needed to make his dream and wish come true, while you haven’t. You simply sat back and watch it go by, you got lazy, you got scared to go out there and make it happen.

Don’t stop dreaming, but don’t just dream and wish for things to automatically happen for you the way you want them, you have to do whatever it takes to make it happen. No body else can do it for you but you.

You only get one chance in life, so make every minute count!

What’s Your Dream, As Inspired by Clarence

So you have a dream, now what?

Well, everyone else in the world has a dream, in fact, we all have our dreams of the things we want to do in our lives, and the only difference between you and the guy next door is about what you do now, right now, in order to make your dream come true.

If you sit back and simply say; ” I have a dream”, but don’t do anything to cause your dream to come true, then it never will. In fact, 40 or 60 years from now, you will still be saying “I have a dream”, but by then, you’ll be sitting on your patio, if you’d have one, with grey hair, still lauding your dream to everyone who passes by, down the street.

What you do today, right now, may help make your dream come true tomorrow. It’s all up to you to do whatever it takes now in order to make your dream come true.

Stop smoking weed and cigarettes, stop drinking alcohol, stop chasing men and women, stop partying and clubbing, stop the chat, get off Facebook or Twitter for a minute and take a moment, sit back and evaluate yourself, think about the things you need to do in order to make your dream come true and do it, don’t just think about it, make a move and do it. You are immensely endowed with great potential, act to realize yours.

What’s your dream?

Making the Best Out of the Worst, Especially Right Now

Someone once told me that the start is always the easiest but is the end that counts the most. So, whatever it is that you are doing, people will always appreciate how you start, but will always remember how you finish.

Well, for me, it’s been a long journey trying to find my pitch, my niche, and I believe I found it now. Since August 2008, I’ve embarked on a project that seemed nearly impossible, in a crowded market economy. But I’ve always believed in myself, and the power of being creative, to find the best out of the worst, even when most of us may seem to be out of luck due to our current economy. But I believe the best is yet to come. I think I can truly say so, because being an economics student here at OSU, and in Spring 2010, I hope to start my PhD program in Economics, I strongly believe that our economy will turn around sooner than we think, and no matter where you are or whatever you are doing, you can make the best out of anything, especially right now.

I am a strong believer, always have been. I believe that each and every one of us have certain God given, unalienable gifts and talents, and it’s up to each and everyone of us to go all the way and explore how to maximize our potential in order to make our dreams come true.

In August 2008, my team and I started working on my new project, Welated (www.welated.com), and it seemed almost impossible making it and developing it to become an actual, viable entity with an actual business model that doesn’t just depend on paid ads like other social networking sites, and I have to say that, with God’s help, I think finally made it happen. Welated is now done, fully functional, and I am very excited about it. We started testing it on January 2009, under a certain code name, and over 8,000 people signed up within just two months, and that was amazing.

We’re now migrating the site from the testing alpha to beta mode, it is a combination of Facebook, MySpace, and Hi5.com, all in one. We combined all the cool tools you’ll find on most of your favorite social networking sites and place them in one easy-to-use Welated platform.

However, Welated has a creative twist to it, that’s, instead of simply offering traditional social networking tools, Welated offers an innovative platform that allows users to keep track of what their lovers are doing at any given time. That’s, a Welated user can instantly know if her or his wife/husband/boyfriend/girlfriend is being unfaithful and more, anywhere. I purposely founded Welated to help people learn more about each other’s dating history, interests, and activities, so that no one can ever say; I wish I only knew.

Please, take some time and check out Welated at www.welated.com, sign up, it’s free, and take a tour of the site, experiment with the tools on the site, and please let me know what you think. You can always delete your account at any time if you decide not to stay registered, and feel free to search for my name on the site and connect with me.

Feel free to Welated me at; http://www.welated.com/profile.php?user=simon

So You Can, Stupid, Just Try!

Hey you, stupid, if you ever wanted something in your life, whatever it is, and you haven’t gotten it yet, it’s because you simply don’t want it. But if you really want it, then go get it. No what it is, no matter how long it takes, just go do it, don’t quit and don’t give up on what you really want.

Anything is possible, but only if you strongly believe, only if you try, don’t just say you want it, you have to get up and go get it, no matter what it takes, just get up, and go get it, don’t hold back, don’t be shy, and don’t worry about what anybody else is saying. It’s your life, you have to do what you want in your life, you have to do it for you, for yourself, may be for your family, for your community, or for your country.

Just know this; nobody is going to do it for you. Don’t expect anyone to do it for you, and even if you ask or pay someone to do it for you, they will never do it for you exactly the way you want it. You’ve got to be involved, you’ve got to be a participant, you’ve got to be there, it’s how you want it, the way you want it. So go get it. You are just a second away from getting there, just keep on trying.

Remember, a winner is just a big loser who never gave up. You can have it all, you can do it all, you can do anything, but only if you try harder, but smart. And, while you are trying to do it, don’t forget to say a prayer, to ask for help from the Mighty; it works, always, and it will work for you as well, just believe and go out there and do it, now.

Just remember, haste makes waste, so don’t get demoralized if it’s not working out the first time, just keep on trying, it’s already yours, just go out there, claim it, and get it.

Don’t give up, stop being stupid, go out there and get it!

Finally, my education

It’s been a great struggle for me since I was a kid just to get an education, and I’ve had many great successes and failures in my life since secondary school.

One of those successes were to achieving my secondary school education, and thereafter learning and studying Audio Engineering and later worked in audio for TV, Film and music production, where I have had many opportunities of meeting and working with many great people; from many different honorable heads of states such as Tony Blair, Mandela, Nujoma, Bush Sr., etc., to many celebrities, thanks to two great people, Mr. Engh and Mr. Stender in Denmark.

At the same time, like any normal human being, I’ve made many mistakes and have had many failures in my life, and one of these mistakes or regrets were how I created WEA, not its vision and goal, because its vision and goal were and I still foresee them as something vital for many, and although it had done good for many, it also has had its shares of mistakes, simply because; I just didn’t know any better, in terms of initially setting it up, its organizational structure, functions, operations and strategy in order to making it live up to its mission.

However, I am so humbly excited now, because I am finally going to graduate in 2008 from the Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, with interest in Econometrics. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me, finally getting my education. It’s better than anything I have ever done in my life, and I am so graciously happy and proud of myself, because I never knew that I would have a chance.

I know that with this education and the knowledge I have amassed from a large body of one of the greatest minds in the world, OSU, this will greatly enable me to do things at utmost best, in terms of business related, and I guarantee you that from here on, as long as I breathe, expect greater things from me.

I have always wanted to go back to college, but I always had to work to support my family, and I didn’t have the time needed to fully commit myself to studying, but the last 5 years have been incredibly productive for me, which has enabled me to focus on my education, thanks to God, my wife, family and friends for believing in me.

Today, October 10, is my birthday, as well as for my daughter, Cinnamon. I am just so thankful for everything, and I am humbly thankful for my Lord Jesus Christ who made this day, a special day, just for me and my daughter.

Well, back to my study, I have a German quiz tomorrow. The funny thing is; English is the second foreign language I had to learn and now that I am studying German, I am starting to lose my English, because whenever I learn a new foreign language, I tend to forget the other language.
